Application Program in Society and Communication (formerly the“Program in Society, Politics, and Mass Communication”)
The Application Program in Society and Communication bridges three academic disciplines—social work, political economy, and applied communication. This interdisciplinary curriculum integrates practical and socially engaged learning approaches, helping students understand current social trends and fostering well-rounded talent with a strong foundation in the humanities and social sciences.
In an era of rapid and unpredictable changes in social structures, this program is rooted in humanistic values and concerns itself with issues such as poverty, social welfare policy, social reform, and deeper explorations of human rights.
Given Taiwan's unique and complex political position, the program offers foundational courses in political science, extending into international relations. It delves into the development of Taiwan's democracy and party politics, as well as the evolving cross-strait political dynamics.
In today's media-saturated information age, the program addresses the current social and cultural landscape shaped by news media practices. As new communication technologies continue to emerge, the program also explores related social issues, cultural developments, and popular culture under the influence of these evolving media.
The Application Program in Society and Communication is jointly administered by the Graduate Institutes of Mass Communication, Social Work, Political Science, and the Department of East Asian Studies.
